We have been talking with Lily's therapist about helping her to be able to climb up and down from furniture in the house. He is very supportive of this idea. In fact he believes that if we can instill independence and self-reliance in her at a young age it will benefit her overall self-esteem and future motivation to be independent. We have gone through many different ideas, including one to acquire aerobic steps for her to use. Our dear friends the Lillywhites found out about this idea, and knowing how much Lily likes to attempt to climb things these days, they helped us in our search. In total they secured three steppers for Lily. One is an old soft foam-like step. We have placed it by her toddler bed and she easily gets herself on and off when she wants to. The other two steppers (in the accompanying picture) were gifted to Lily by a local gym that has discontinued its aerobics classes. Lucky us! We have them placed next to a big chair and ottoman in the basement. She loves the freedom to move up and down as she pleases. But she is so polite, and always asks permission before she goes up or down. Thank you Matt, Josh and Lila for all of your help! These are really a great help for Lily's independence in our home.
